Preparing for an entry into Pinnacle Ridge Extreme

Graded scrambles, knife edge ridges, hands on rock, 3 points of contact.

Only the most experienced, competent all-round mountain runners will toe the start line of Pinnacle Ridge Extreme. If you want to be one of them, here are a few ways you can help ensure that your entry application makes it through our vetting process:

**If you don't rock climb up to a descent climbing grade, please do not apply!

Build up your racing experience:

When we assess your racing experience, we’re looking for evidence that you have the skill and confidence to run technical, and run long. If this is your first technical 'hands on rock' skyrace then you will find it hard to build the type of race experience we're looking for, but we suggest you pick the mot technical races like the Snowdon Skyline, Dolomites Sky Race, Glencoe Skyline. We will also consider races such as the Scafell Sky Race, Ring of Steal, V3K and other such races. AL long fell races will also give you the skills necessary for moving fast across very technical terrain.

Build up your scrambling experience:

We want to know that you can tackle a Graded scrambling with sure feet and a clear head, without posing a danger to yourself, your fellow competitors or our safety team. If you have a fear of heights, wobbly knees or vertigo, this isn’t the race for you: we want to know you’ll be safe and confident on the course. However, if hands-and-feet-on- rock is your cup of tea, then get some named and graded scrambles and/or rock climbs under your belt and tell us about them on your entry form: then we’ll know you’re ready to face Pinnacle Ridge and more with confidence and style. Safety is the aim of the game.

Come to Mountain Run Sky School:

If you love the sound of all this but just don’t have the time or confidence to pack in the right race or scrambling experience on your own before entries close in June, check out our Mountain Run Sky School training packages. We’ve designed a Training Weekend and route recce day (full details coming soon) tailor made to help keen Pinnacle Ridge Extreme entrants gain the specific experience and confidence they need to gain an entry. Complete one of these successfully (the Mountain Run team will advise you), and you’ll know that you’re ready to toe the start line at Pinnacle Ridge Extreme sky race.
